Sopore, Sept 14: The 2nd edition of the Cycling Racing Championship was held on Sunday morning at Nowpora Sopore, drawing enthusiastic participation from more than 120 boys and girls in the 15–19 age group.

The event witnessed spirited competition and was aimed at promoting sports culture among the youth. MLA Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar, attended as the chief guest and encouraged the participants.

Speaking to the media, Kar praised the organizers for continuing the championship, calling it a positive step toward youth engagement. “This is a good initiative. The motive is to keep young people away from excessive screen time and engage them in sports activities, which is good for their health as well as for society,” he said.

The MLA further assured that the government is working on developing sports infrastructure in the region. “All pending sports grounds are under construction, and in the future, we will ensure that sports infrastructure projects are completed soon,” Kar noted.

He also announced plans to dedicate a special park for women in Sopore. “We are identifying land, and as soon as it is available, we will start work on creating a park exclusively for women,” he added.

The championship concluded with prize distributions and cheers for the young cyclists who showcased their talent and determination on the track.
