Rajouri, March 24 : Since assuming office in November 2024, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal has spearheaded a transformative era at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), driving unprecedented advancements in academics, research, infrastructure, financial stability, and administrative reforms. With a steadfast commitment to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, student-centric initiatives, and institutional excellence, BGSBU has emerged as a trailblazer in higher education, setting new benchmarks of innovation, inclusivity, and academic distinction.
In alignment with NEP 2020, BGSBU has introduced four-year undergraduate programs in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, and Engineering with multiple entry-exit options, ensuring flexibility and interdisciplinary learning. This major academic reform equips students with 21st-century skills, fosters research-driven education, and aligns the university with global academic standards. With a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary studies, BGSBU has significantly expanded its academic offerings by establishing new departments and launching innovative undergraduate and postgraduate programs to meet evolving industry demands. The university has introduced the Departments of Sanskrit, History, Political Science and International Relations, Sociology, Linguistics, and Mechanical Engineering, fostering a diverse and comprehensive educational environment.
The newly launched programs include Kashmiri, Pahari, Gojri, Persian, English, Urdu, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Linguistics in the language domain, along with History, Sociology, Political Science, Islamic Studies, Economics, and Education in the humanities and social sciences. To stay at the forefront of technological advancements, BGSBU has introduced B.Tech programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, ensuring that students acquire cutting-edge skills relevant to the modern workforce. Recognizing the importance of specialized studies in engineering, the university has also launched M.Tech programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Power and Energy Systems, Electronics & Communication, and Water Resource Engineering. Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University remains dedicated to the welfare and professional growth of its faculty and staff. The university has implemented Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions for teachers, recognizing academic excellence and facilitating their professional growth. Additionally, the enhancement of Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees, in accordance with government norms, ensures financial well-being and stability. In a significant move to address long-standing financial concerns, BGSBU has also prioritized the payment of arrears to GDH, demonstrating its strong administrative commitment to employee welfare.
BGSBU has secured a ₹20 crore grant from RUSA, Ministry of Education, Government of India, marking a significant milestone for infrastructure development and research expansion. Additionally, the grant will support faculty recruitment and student scholarships, promoting academic excellence and accessibility. In another major financial achievement, BGSBU has received a revision in the grant-in-aid from the government with an increase of ₹11 crore.

An Awareness Program on New Criminal Laws educated students on India’s latest judicial reforms, featuring legal experts, judges, and scholars. BGSBU successfully organized a National Seminar on “The Role of Regional Languages in Nation-Building with Respect to NEP 2020” in collaboration with Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The seminar provided a vital platform for academicians, linguists, and policymakers to deliberate on the significance of regional languages in education, governance, and cultural preservation. Experts emphasized the role of linguistic diversity in strengthening national unity and discussed strategies to promote multilingual education as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In a major step towards environmental sustainability, BGSBU launched a Plantation Drive on campus, reinforcing its commitment to a greener and eco-friendly environment. BGSBU has undertaken a comprehensive revamp of its Ph.D. guidelines, aligning them with the latest UGC regulations to enhance quality, transparency, and research rigor. The updated guidelines strengthen research ethics, streamline the admission process, ensure timely completion, and promote interdisciplinary studies.
