Srinagar, Feb 21: A 23-year-old youth was on Friday evening found with suspected knife injuries in the Mawer area of Handwara, north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to reports received here, one Mohammad Iqbal Pandith, a resident of Bunpora Langate, was found lying on a road in a pool of blood, seemingly due to injuries he sustained in a suspected knife attack in Pringroo Mawer area.

He, according to the locals, was immediately rushed to GMC Handwara for medical treatment, where, as per last reports, he was responding well to the treatment.

Speaking to Alfaaz – The Words, Medical Superintendent of DH Handwara, Aijaz Ahmad, confirming of having received the patient, said that he (youth) had some laceration wounds.

“After administering the necessary treatment, he has shown signs of improvement and is currently out of danger, even as we continue to monitor his overall condition,” Aijaz said.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a statement from the Station House Officer (SHO) Mawer regarding the matter, didn’t fructify, as the Police officer didn’t responded to multiple calls.

Even as authorities are yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident, local sources have said that the youth fell to the attack at the hands of the locals of Pringroo Mawer, due to some misdemeanor in the area.
