{"id":95711,"date":"2026-07-13T21:11:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T15:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.khushalekashmir.com\/?p=95711"},"modified":"2026-07-13T21:11:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T15:41:47","slug":"mehbooba-mufti-accuses-bjp-of-trying-to-communalise-1931-kashmir-martyrs-claims-placed-under-house-arrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.khushalekashmir.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/13\/mehbooba-mufti-accuses-bjp-of-trying-to-communalise-1931-kashmir-martyrs-claims-placed-under-house-arrest\/","title":{"rendered":"Mehbooba Mufti accuses BJP of trying to \u201ccommunalise\u201d 1931 Kashmir martyrs, claims placed under house arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar, Jul 13<\/strong>: PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday accused the BJP of attempting to divide the region on communal lines by politicising the legacy of Kashmir\u2019s 1931 martyrs, while alleging that she was placed under house arrest to prevent her from paying tributes at the martyrs\u2019 graveyard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe BJP has made the sacrifice of Kashmiris a question of Hindu-Muslim, Dogra-Kashmiri, Jammu-Kashmir,\u201d Mehbooba Mufti told reporters here as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The PDP chief said the 21 Kashmiris killed outside the central jail on July 13, 1931, \u201cawakened our nation\u201d and \u201claid the foundation for the public statement we see today\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She drew parallels with India\u2019s freedom struggle, invoking the names of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and Ashfaq-ul-Haq Khan, and asserted that her party respects all martyrs equally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBJP cannot put dirt on the minds of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mehbooba Mufti also claimed that she was prevented from visiting the Mazar-e-Shuhada at the Naqshband Sahib shrine in Nowhatta. \u201cYesterday they arrested me, today they have locked me up. This is the injustice of BJP,\u201d she alleged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they cannot respect our martyrs, then at least they should not stop us. They should be punished,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities had earlier sealed roads leading to the shrine and deployed police and CRPF personnel across the old city. The day, officially observed as a public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir until the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, continues to be commemorated by regional parties.
