Jammu, Mar 26: Chief spokesperson of JKSA Dr. Zubair Reshi has strongly condemned the recent recommendation by a panel of Jammu University to remove Sir Syed Ahmad Khan from the postgraduate syllabus. He termed the move as deeply unfortunate, academically unjustified, and influenced by pressure tactics rather than scholarly reasoning.<\/p>\n
Dr. Reshi said that the recommendation appears to have followed an illegitimate protest by ABVP, which raises serious concerns about the autonomy of academic institutions and the growing trend of politicising education. \u201cUniversities must remain centres of critical thinking and intellectual integrity, not spaces where historical figures are selectively erased to suit ideological narratives,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the towering legacy of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Dr. Reshi emphasized his unparalleled contribution to nation-building, social reform, and modern education in India. He noted that Sir Syed played a significant role in awakening scientific temperament and educational consciousness among Indians during colonial rule, and his contributions extend to the broader freedom movement and intellectual development of the country.<\/p>\n
Dr. Reshi further stated that the founding of Aligarh Muslim University by Sir Syed marked a transformative moment in India\u2019s educational history. \u201cAMU has produced generations of academicians, leaders, thinkers, and freedom fighters who have immensely contributed to the nation\u2019s progress. Undermining Sir Syed\u2019s legacy is equivalent to disregarding a foundational pillar of modern Indian education,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Expressing serious concern over the implications of such a move, Dr. Reshi warned that removing Sir Syed Ahmad Khan from the syllabus would set a dangerous precedent across the country, particularly sending a negative signal to the educated sections of society and the Muslim community. \u201cThis is not just about one personality; it is about preserving the inclusive and pluralistic fabric of our academic discourse,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Dr. Reshi asserted that if the recommendation is implemented, he, as a proud alumnus of AMU and a firm follower of Sir Syed\u2019s vision, will not remain silent. \u201cI will knock every constitutional and democratic door to ensure justice for the legacy and contributions of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. Such attempts to dilute history will be resisted through all lawful means,\u201d he affirmed.<\/p>\n
