All such unauthorized work has been banned with immediate effect and will remain prohibited until January 26, with strict legal action promised against violators.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tehsildar Sopore Shiekh Tariq said the drive primarily aims to halt unauthorized sand extraction from river banks. He said such illicit mining is causing severe damage to the River Jhelum and the broader environment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnauthorized and illegal sand mining operations must not be shielded under the pretext of unemployment,\u201d Tehsildar Tariq asserted. \u201cThese operations are largely controlled by a well-organized mafia that exploits laborers from distant locations for personal gain, thereby further destabilizing the already fragile ecological balance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He issued a stern warning against any sympathy for these groups, stating, \u201cAnyone showing empathy towards these operators is committing a significant disservice to society, as the River Jhelum and its tributaries are the real lifeline of Kashmir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Tehsildar detailed the multifaceted harm caused by these activities, stating that they not only pose grave environmental hazards but also degrade local infrastructure. \u201cThe illicit movement of trucks and tractors associated with this mining leads to deteriorating road conditions and contributes to respiratory problems among residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stressing a balanced approach, Tehsildar Shiekh Tariq said the administration is also mindful of the livelihoods of those dependent on sand mining. He announced a proactive rehabilitation plan. \u201cWe will help transition affected workers towards alternative livelihoods, such as the manufacturing and sale of hollow concrete blocks.
