{"id":89403,"date":"2025-07-17T00:44:55","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T19:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.khushalekashmir.com\/?p=89403"},"modified":"2025-07-17T00:44:55","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T19:14:55","slug":"drain-overflow-triggers-land-sinkage-in-yariporas-kanjikulla-2014-concrete-structure-damaged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.khushalekashmir.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/17\/drain-overflow-triggers-land-sinkage-in-yariporas-kanjikulla-2014-concrete-structure-damaged\/","title":{"rendered":"Drain Overflow Triggers Land Sinkage in Yaripora\u2019s Kanjikulla; 2014 Concrete Structure Damaged"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Water Supply Also Affected; Locals demand urgent safety measures from authorities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kulgam, July 16 (JKNS): A portion of land along a drainage channel in Kanjikulla area of Yaripora, South Kashmir\u2019s Kulgam district, collapsed on Tuesday following continuous rainfall, raising fresh concerns about erosion, infrastructure damage, and disruption to essential services including water supply.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A group of locals told news agency JKNS that the drain swelled beyond its carrying capacity due to non-stop rain over the past few days, eventually damaging a concrete structure laid in 2014 to protect the bank from erosion. \u201cThe base underneath the structure eroded due to the overflow, causing the land to sink,\u201d said one resident.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to structural damage, drinking water pipelines running alongside the drain were also impacted, disrupting water supply to several households in the area. \u201cOur taps have gone dry since the incident. This has added to our difficulties,\u201d said a local resident.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although no injuries were reported, the area remains vulnerable to further damage. \u201cWe are afraid that if this rainfall continues, the remaining portions may also collapse,\u201d the locals said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The incident has prompted residents to appeal to the district administration and the Irrigation &amp; Flood Control Department for an immediate technical assessment and repair plan. \u201cThis is not just about repairing the damage,\u201d another resident added. \u201cWe need long-term drainage planning and infrastructure upgrades, especially in view of unpredictable weather and increasing rainfall intensity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Locals have demanded permanent embankments, regulated drainage systems, and restoration of the water supply network to safeguard both public safety and local livelihoods.
