{"id":88834,"date":"2025-06-14T23:34:35","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T18:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.khushalekashmir.com\/?p=88834"},"modified":"2025-06-14T23:34:35","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T18:04:35","slug":"lg-draws-a-line-says-only-police-under-him-development-domain-of-elected-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.khushalekashmir.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/14\/lg-draws-a-line-says-only-police-under-him-development-domain-of-elected-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"LG draws a line, says only Police under him, development domain of elected Govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Says won\u2019t object to development work; urges minister to take up implementation of crop insurance scheme for horticulture on priority, HADP brought revolution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kulgam, Jun 14 (KNO): Drawing a line, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that only police come under his control while rest of the departments fall within the domain of the elected government.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the closing ceremony of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at Khudwani in this South Kashmir District, LG Sinha, as per the news agency\u2014Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the progress of agriculture sector is must as huge population is dependent on this sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a set of demands from the farming community, including inclusion of horticulture under the Crop Insurance Scheme, LG Sinha said, \u201cYou said, \u2018LG Sahab, give us something.\u2019 \u201cThe only thing I can give you are the police personnel. Rest \u2014 roads, water, power, agriculture \u2014 fall under the government\u2019s domain. I won\u2019t object to any development work initiated by the elected regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The remark came in response to a statement of Minister Sakina Itoo. It was received with applause and appreciation for its candidness. \u201cI have no objection if the elected government acts on your pleas. I stand with you.\u201d The LG said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event marked the conclusion of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide initiative aimed at transforming India\u2019s agricultural sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LG Sinha called the mission a \u201ctransformative step toward building a resilient, modern, and prosperous agricultural landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur ultimate goal is to make every farmer in J&amp;K UT a proud stakeholder in India\u2019s journey toward becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047. We are committed to build a stronger farm economy, increase rural employment, and enhance farmer incomes,\u201d the LG said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the commitment of J&amp;K Administration, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to build a stronger farm economy, increasing rural employment opportunities and enhancing farmer&#8217;s income.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He called upon the farming community and stakeholders to \u201cwalk together towards a future where every field blooms with prosperity, every farmer thrives with dignity, and every village becomes a symbol of development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Sankalp (resolve) comes Shakti (strength), and with Shakti comes Vikas (development),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LG Sinha said that 70 percent of J&amp;K&#8217;s population is dependent on agriculture and allied sectors, making agricultural progress central to the Union Territory\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out notable improvements under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), which has \u201cbrought a revolution in agri and allied sectors\u201d including mustard cultivation, trout production, and beekeeping. \u201cThe HADP is the first revolutionary program in agriculture in any state or UT in recent times. It is a comprehensive strategy, designed to make J&amp;K UT a robust Rs. 1\u202ftrillion agricultural economy by 2030,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mustard farming, he said provides triple benefits: reducing dependence on imported edible oil, generating fodder, and promoting apiculture through early bee arrival.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said that there were just three districts that were under Fasal Bhima Yojna when he took over as LG but currently all 20 districts have been covered under it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of crop insurance for horticulture, Sinha stated that it was a long-pending demand of the people. \u201cThe decision lies with the government, but I urge the concerned minister to pursue it. There will be no opposition from Raj Bhawan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am happy to share that in December 2022, the cold storage capacity in Jammu and Kashmir was 1.40 lakh metric tonnes. By January 2024, it has more than doubled,\u201d said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFish production has increased by 33%, significantly boosting trout production. In 2020, the milk processing capacity was 35,000 litres, which has now increased six times. To enhance agricultural trade, 17 mandis have been connected. In a short span, farmers in J&amp;K have achieved trade worth Rs 1,050 crore through this initiative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lieutenant Governor further said that under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, 13 lakh farmer families in J&amp;K are directly receiving Rs 3,674 crore in their bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lieutenant Governor highlighted several targeted initiatives taken by the administration for the upliftment of the forest-dwelling tribal communities and those engaged in agriculture and allied sectors.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, the J&amp;K also has a special focus on the development of tribal farming communities, Gujjars, Bakarwals, Paharis, and other STs, who are the custodians of our forests, mountains and traditional wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe active participation from every district in Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan reflects our collective commitment to a self-reliant J&amp;K. Let us continue this spirit of progress and partnership to ensure sustainable growth and improved livelihoods for our farming communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lieutenant Governor also lauded the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for actively engaging in agriculture and allied sectors. \u201cYoung people are becoming agricultural entrepreneurs and leveraging the benefits of Government of India schemes. They are proving that farming is not only about subsistence but also about innovation and enterprise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lieutenant Governor also launched various initiatives and publications of SKUAST Kashmir and handed over sanctioned letters to farmers from tribal communities under different schemes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He also congratulated the Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops for the development of 20 rice varieties keeping in mind the agro-ecology of Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A two- minute silence was observed in the memory of citizens who lost their lives in the Pahalgam Terror Attack.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development &amp; Panchayati Raj; Sakina Itoo, Minister for Education, Health &amp; Medical Education and Social Welfare; Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor; Prof Nazir Ah.
