Srinagar, July 15: Allegations of unauthorized construction have surfaced in the famed tourist destination of Gulmarg, where work on a hotel building is reportedly continuing despite concerns over the legality of the project.
The development has raised questions over adherence to building regulations and enforcement mechanisms in one of Kashmir’s most environmentally sensitive and protected tourist destinations. According to reports, construction activity at the site is progressing at full pace, triggering concern among locals and stakeholders over whether the project has obtained the necessary permissions from the competent authorities.
Gulmarg, known for its fragile ecology and regulated development norms, falls under the jurisdiction of the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), which is responsible for monitoring construction activities and ensuring compliance with applicable laws
When contacted over the issue, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Gulmarg Development Authority acknowledged the matter and assured that it would be examined. Speaking to Shabroz Malik, the CEO said the authority would verify the facts and take appropriate action in accordance with the law if any violations are established.
The incident has once again brought the focus on the need for strict enforcement of building regulations in Gulmarg to safeguard its ecological balance and preserve its status as one of Kashmir’s premier tourist destinations
Further details are awaited as the matter remains under examination by the authorities.
